Compared with the industry
standard D2 tool steel, DC53 from Carrs Toolsteel Technologies provides higher hardness,
much greater toughness and superb machinability.
Bill Church, Carrs Managing Director says "DC53 can be hardened to
63HRC where it is still considerably tougher that D2 hardened to a meagre 56HRC. At any
given hardness DC53 has twice the impact toughness of D2. These properties have resulted
in increases of tool life of up to five times in many applications including: rolling,
blanking, punching, stamping and cold forging. Surprisingly, for a steel with these
properties, DC53 is also much easier to machine. The higher hardness of DC53 allows
processes such as PVD, CVD and Nitriding to be successfully carried out without the
tempering back associated with D2. DC53 is a conventionally wrought steel not a sintered
product. The tempering and toughness charts illustrate the key properties very well." |
