Rather than donate through existing charities,
Carrs Toolsteel Technologies decided to make money available
directly to where it was needed. This was done with the help of a
relative of a Carrs' employee living in Sri-Lanka and who
experienced the full horror of the tsunami when she was washed out
of her house on the beach along with her Christmas guests.
Luckily, they all survived!
The Company's donation was used to
help fund a brick making plant where local people give their time
to make bricks to rebuild their houses. The houses are simple and
can be extended and improved over time but meanwhile the people
have roofs over their heads. They are all connected to power and
water supplies. The pictures below show the brick-making process
and a typical new house. |
