CHARACTERISTICS
This Nickel alloy die steel sets a new standard for material quality. It is the standard high performance die steel with good toughness, deep hardening properties and excellent compressive strength.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

•	Dies for press and hammer forging of steel.	•	Hot stamping dies for Aluminium alloys.
•	Tools for extrusion presses such as mandrel holders, backers.	•	Piercing tools for steel tube production

HEAT TREATMENT

HARDNESS
Carrs DF1 is normally delivered ready for use in the pre-hardedned condition (typically 370 HB) but can be supplier in the annealed condition when necessary.

ANNEALING
Raise temperature to 740-760^oC, hold for 6-8 hours, then cool slowly in the furnace. Annealed hardness approx 250HB.

STRESS RELIEVING
Raise temperature to 630^oC, hold for 1-2 hours and allow to cool slowly.

HARDENING
For forced ain quench, harden at 880-900^oC. For oil quench or vacuum furnace, 850-900^oC. Interrupt oil quench at 150^oC.

ALWAYS PREHEAT BEFORE USE

For optimum performance, it is vitally important that tools be preheated to between 250 and 350^oC and equalised before use.
